The oxidation behavior of steel and the evolution of scale
The research results on the transformation of steel oxidation structure during cooling and the com-position of easily descaled iron scale structure in hot-rolled products have been summarized. The main conclusions are:pure iron can be oxidized in air above 570℃to obtain typical three-layer structures of FeO,Fe3O4,and Fe2O3;oxidation occurs in air at temperatures above 700℃,and the thickness ratio of the three-layer structure remains constant at 95:4:1;according to different chemical composition, atmosphere conditions, gas flow rate, matrix struc-ture,sample surface roughness, grain size, oxidation time, and oxidation temperature, the oxide scale of steel materi-als exhibits different structures and proportions;during the hot rolling process, the structure of the final product's oxide scale also undergoes complex changes depending on the original oxide scale structure and cooling conditions, and different structures significantly affect subsequent descaling.
