The 1898 Reform in the late 19th century once attempted to save the Chinese nation,with the failure of the murder of the six gentlemen.At that point,the tragic color of the Reform had been laid.Wang Guowei,who studied western aesthetics,proposed the aesthetic category of"magnificent".The fail-ure of the Reform confirmed the reflection of Wang Guowei's tragic theory in history.On the basis of ex-ploring the tragic tendency of Wang Guowei's aesthetic thoughts,this paper explores the tragic meaning of the 1898 Reform,aiming to show a historical interpretation endowed with the emotions of the times.
