How to Promote Firm Digital Transformation through Urban High-Speed Rail:Evidence from Chinese Listed Companies
As the advancement of the technological revolution and industrial transformation, the digital economy has become one of the core driver of national economic growth.Based on data from Chinese listed companies and prefecture-level cities from 2000 to 2019,this paper utilizes a difference-in-differences method to examine the effect and mechanisms of urban high-speed rail on firm digital transformation.First, the results show that urban high-speed rail has a significant promoting effect on firm digital transformation, and its radiation range is about 20 kilometers.Additionally, such a positive impact is primarily achieved through reducing the threshold for digital market access, enhancing digital technological innovation, and adjusting digital management strategies. Moreover, the driving effect is more pronounced in areas with improved network infrastructure and a higher level of marketization,as well as in firms with less financial constraints. The research findings provide evidence for the micro-economic effect of high-speed railways and offer valuable theoretical support and policy references for guiding firm digital transformation.
