In 16th-century Florence,Vasari and his team made a series of paintings in Palazzo Vecchio, depicting the history and reality of the city.Intended or not, these paintings composed a pictorial urban history of Florence, although they were scattered in different rooms with various sizes. No doubt that this pictorial history was a propagating measure of the Medici to establish the legitimacy of their power;but taking this opportunity,Vasari sorted out the transformation process of Florence's urban space on the level of historical knowledge.Furthermore, for this city which is comparable to an artwork,a rather personal explanation of the deeper logic of its formation was also implicitly made in the paintings by Vasari.
