Goethe's life began in the preliminary stage of classical music and ended in the transitional period between classical and romantic music. He loved music throughout his whole life.Music not only continued to inspire his creativity, but also his reflections on music. As a writer,he was eager to combine words and music into a new product. He believed that music should be introduced into poetry as an element, and then sublimated on the basis of not affecting the noumenon of poetry,so as to bring people into another perceptual dimension. As a representative of the new humanism,he examined music from a scientific perspective, drafted a book called"Tonlehre",and explored the correlation between subjective perception of music and objective natural phenomena, trying to establish a theory of musical phenomena. As an important figure in Weimar political culture,he inherited and developed Plato's music education concept, placed music at the core of the nation, giving full play to the social and educational function of music.By collecting folk songs, creating Singspiel, establishing national music theater, the repertoire of German national music-drama and other ways,Goethe expected to unify the language culture and thought, and arouse national emotion.
