The status and influencing factors of oral self-efficacy in elderly patients with chronic periodontitis
Objective:To investigate the current status of oral health self-efficacy in elderly patients with chronic periodontitis and to analyze its influencing factors. Methods:A convenience sampling method was used to investigate the oral health self-efficacy in 288 elderly chronic periodontitis patients by applying the General Situation Questionnaire, the Chinese version of Geriatric Self-Efficacy Scale for Oral Health(GSEOH)and the Dental Fear Scale(DFS).Results:The GSEOH score of elderly patients with chronic periodontitis was 57.84±4.28 and the DFS score was 37.69±9.78.The level of dental fear in elderly patients with chronic periodontitis was negatively correlated with the total score of GSEOH(r=-0.457,P<0.001).The multiple regression analysis showed that age, education level, monthly income, residence, severity of periodontitis, and the level of dental fear were the influencing factors of self-efficacy in elderly patients with chronic periodontitis(P<0.05).Conclusion:The level of oral health self-efficacy of elderly patients with chronic periodontitis needs to be improved, and nurses should pay attention to assessing the relevant influencing factors of the patients and adopting targeted nursing interventions to enhance their oral health self-efficacy.
