Incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder among emergency department nurses:a meta-analysis
Objective:To systematically evaluate the incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)among emergency department nurses. Methods:Eight English and four Chinese databases were searched for epidemiological studies related to the incidence of PTSD among emergency department nurses.Searches were conducted from database inception to October 2022.Literature screening and data extraction were completed by 2 researchers independently according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and cross-sectional study quality was evaluated by applying the AHRQ scale.Meta-analysis was performed with Stata 11.0 software. Results:A total of 14 articles were included, including 2 370 emergency department nurses,of which 612 were positive for PTSD.According to subgroup analysis, the incidence of PTSD in male and female emergency department nurses was 44.6%and 30.8%,respectively.The incidence of PTSD among emergency department nurses in China was 27.8%,while the incidence of PTSD among emergency department nurses abroad was 25.2%.Among the 6 PTSD assessment tools retrieved, emergency department nurses diagnosed with the Mississippi Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Scale(civilian version)had the highest incidence of PTSD,at 83.21%.Conclusion:Current evidence shows that the incidence of PTSD among emergency department nurses was higher among emergency department nurses who were male, whose study site was China, and diagnosed with the Civilian Mississippi scale.Due to the limitations of the number and quality of included studies, the above conclusions still need to be verified by more high-quality epidemiological studies.
