Isolation and identification of an avian-derived Enterococcus faecalis strain
In order to elucidate the species name and biological characteristics of an isolate from a chicken neck infection, isolation and purification, smear staining microscopy, biochemical test, drug sensitivity test and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis were carried out.The results showed that the morphological characteristics, biochemical characteristics and 16S rRNA gene sequence of this isolate were consistent with those of Enterococcus faecalis,so the isolate was identified as Enterococcus faecalis. This Enterococcus faecalis was resistant to tetracycline, clindamycin, cotrimoxazole, polymyxin B and vancomycin, moderately sensitive to ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin, and sensitive to benzocillin, erythromycin, chloramphenicol, minocycline etc.The above findings may provide a clinical reference for the prevention and control of Enterococcus faecalis infections.
