In order to study the dwarfing effect of chlormequat chloride and paclobutrazol on ornamental sunflower,two varieties of or-namental sunflower,Cabaret and Rose Love,were used as experimental materials.In four true leaves,the leaves were sprayed with different concentrations of chlormequat chloride(1 500 mg·L-1,2 000 mg·L-1,2 500 mg·L-1)and paclobutrazol(100 mg·L-1,300 mg L-1,500 mg L-1).The changes of plant growth,leaves,flowers and flowering time under different treatments were analyzed.The results showed that different chemical treatments had dwarfing effects on two kinds of ornamental sunflowers,and had different effects on stem diameter,leaf area,chlorophyll content,disc diameter and number of side flowers.In summary,the dwarfization effect of pa-clobutrazol was better than that of chlormequat chloride,and the treatment with 500 mg·L-1 paclobutrazol had the best effect.Under this treatment,the plant height of Cabale was 56.83 cm,decreased by 36.8%compared with the control,while the plant height of rose love was 66.37 cm,decreased by 49.3%compared with the control,both of which were significantly lower than the control.In summa-ry,treatments with different concentrations of paclobutrazol and chlormequat chloride reduce the plant height of two ornamental sun-flower varieties,and both treatments increase the stem diameter of the Cabaret variety.However,for Rose Love variety,chlormequat chloride treatment does not increase stem diameter,while 500 mg L-1 paclobutrazol treatment has a better effect on increasing stem diameter.Treatment with a suitable concentration of growth retardant can be used as a way to dwarf ornamental sunflowers and im-prove their ornamental value.
