Insecticidal Activity of Extracts of Suaeda salsa at Different Growth Stages against Plutella xylostella
The extract of Suaeda salsa.shows toxicity and antifeedant effects on Plutella xylostella. The current literature lacks any re-ports on the optimal timing for harvesting S.salsa as a botanical pesticide. The objective of this study was to determine the optimal growth period for extracting insecticidal components from S.salsa.In this experiment, ethanol was used as the extraction solvent with varying concentrations to compare the insecticidal activity of extracts obtained from different above-ground parts of S.salsa at various growth stages. The findings demonstrated that 90%ethanol exhibited superior solvent properties for extracting insecticidal components from all aerial parts of S.salsa.The optimal period for extracting insecticidal components was during the luxuriant season in July from S.salsa leaves, with a lethal medium concentration LC50 of 46.77 mg·mL-1.The optimal period for extracting insecticidal components from the fruit of S.salsa.was during the phase of development in September, with a lethal medium concentration LC50 of 20.42 mg·mL-1.The insecticidal activity of the extract from the stem of S.salsa was the lowest in all growth stages. Therefore, the fruit extract of S.salsa had the highest insecticidal activity in September, and had the most potential to be developed as a pesticide of plant origin, followed by S.salsa leaves in July, and S.salsa.stems had the least development value of plant pesticide.S.salsa can be used as pes-ticide of plant origin while improving saline-alkali land and has a promising prospect.
