The Difficulties,Expectations, and Corresponding Measures for the Development of Overseas Chinese Language Schools
The survey of Chinese language schools from 29 representative countries on five continents shows that the main difficulties in school operation include:no guarantee of legal status;difficulty in obtaining local official education funds;lack of school premises;faculty not meeting the professional requirements;unsuitable textbooks;fluctuating student population;insufficient and unprofessional management personnel;teaching methods lacking specificity for ethnic Chinese.Chinese schools generally expect a relaxed educational environment to fundamentally solve the problems of"teachers, textbooks and teaching methods"to ensure the Chinese school education is in line with the domestic standards.Supportive measures include:accurately positioning Chinese language education;strengthening guidance for transformation and upgrading;planning the continuing education of Chinese language teachers;upgrading the teaching materials of Chinese schools and enhancing their humanistic qualities with reference to the domestic textbooks of Chinese;and coordinating international Chinese language education and overseas Chinese language education to achieve resource sharing and mutual support.
