Abstract
Animal narration, which has undergone a lengthy historical development process, reflects the ideological culture and social evolvement throughout a certain period. The progress of Japanese animal narration is closely connected with the spread of Buddhism. The introduction of Buddhism has advanced the development of Japanese culture partly in that the Japanese setsuwa literature has become a carrier of the common historical memory and writing of the region, offering a constructed space for multi-cultural communication in the growth of animal narration.By tracing the maturing process and spatial spread of animal narration in Japanese setsuwa literature through the perspective of silk road culture,we can break through traditional research outlooks and modes in an attempt to explore the cultural commonalities and values embodied in animal narration through exchanges and interactions among civilizations.
