Statistical Measurement and Evolution of China's Provincial Urban-Rural Development Gap——Based on the Research View of HDI
It is inevitable for common prosperity to continuously narrow the urban-rural development gap and promote their integrated development.Based on the Human Development Index(HDI),the paper respectively constructed the urban-rural HDI for each region in China from 2000 to 2020,so as to measure the urban-rural development gap,and analyzed the measurement results and variation characteristics from the perspectives of regional differences, convergence and structural decomposition. The study found that:the urban-rural gap in China was gradually easing, and the areas with relatively larger gap were mainly concentrated in the western region.Meanwhile, the gap index showed obvious convergence characteristics over time, and the regions with a larger gap narrowed at a relatively faster rate, showing the catch-up effect to some extent.Since 2010,the urban-rural education gap has mainly induced the urban-rural development gap in China, while the urban-rural income gap could drive the improvement of the urban-rural development gap to a large extent. Therefore, future endeavours should focus on accelerating the narrowing of the urban-rural education gap and continuously reducing the urban-rural income gap.
