The scientific establishment,timely updating and effective implementation of industrial classification are of great significance to the development of national economy.Among industrial classification systems,International Standard Industrial Classification(ISIC)issued by the United Nations has the biggest influence,which guides the establishment of industrial classification standards in various countries.This paper took the international progress of ISIC as the thread of research,and systematically combed the developing course of ISIC.Then the paper analyzed the evolution patterns of ISIC versions in terms of classification principles,classification structure and symbol system from the perspective of differences,and summarized the basic structure and major changes of the latest version of ISIC Rev.5.Finally,based on the current situation of China's economic development and the needs of statistical work,the paper further analyzed the enlightenment of ISIC update to the revision of Chinese industrial classification for national economy activities,in order to explore its optimization paths.
