Do Government Subsidies Enhance the Entrepreneurial Performance of Returnee Migrant Workers——Based on the Survey of Poverty Alleviation Counties in the Western Region
Based on the survey data of 892 poverty alleviation counties in the western region, this paper used the Logit model to empirically investigate the impact of government subsidies on the entrepreneurial performance of returnee migrant workers. It was found that, government subsidies have significantly enhanced the entrepreneurial performance of returnee migrant workers by expanding their entrepreneurial scales, and this result remained valid after the robustness test.Heterogeneity analysis indicated that, the promotion effect of government subsidies was more evident for agriculture-related entrepreneurs, new generation and the entrepreneurs living in a mountainous region. Therefore, there were three suggestions.Firstly, the government had better effectively use subsidies to help returnee migrant workers expand their entrepreneurial scales.Secondly, the government should actively encourage the new generation to return hometowns and start business.Meanwhile, the government ought to provide diversified guidances for agriculture-related entrepreneurs.Thirdly, the government had to update the entrepreneurial security system for the returnee migrant workers in mountainous regions, and create more entrepreneurial opportunities for those in impoverished mountainous areas.
