Impact of Housing Stratification on the Birth Planning of Mobile Youth
Based on the dynamic monitoring survey data of mobile population, this paper empirically tested the impact of housing stratification on the birth planning of mobile youth and its transmission mechanism. The findings were as follows.Firstly,home-ownership significantly promoted the birth planning of mobile youth, but had a negative effect on plans for having a second child.Secondly, young migrants residing in affordable rental housing were more willing to have children compared to those living in market-rental housing.Thirdly, social integration played a partial mediating role in the impact of housing stratification on the birth planning of mobile youth.Homeownership could facilitate social integration among mobile youth, thereby encouraging them to make reproductive plans.Governments should further improve the housing market system and housing security system, and establish supportive housing policies to encourage childbearing, ensuring that mobile youth were both willing and able to have children.
