Theoretical Basis and Empirical Facts of Digital Technology Innovation Empowering Common Prosperity
Digital technology innovation,as a new form of technology innovation in the era of digital intelligence,provides a new path for solidly promoting common prosperity in the new era and new journey.Based on panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2001 to 2021,the impact and its underlying mechanisms of digital technology innovation on common prosperity are examined by using text analysis to identify digital patents in each province to characterize the level of digital technology innovation.The results show that digital technology innovation significantly promotes common prosperity,and this conclusion remains valid after a series of robustness tests and controlling for endogeneity.In terms of mechanisms,digital technology innovation has played a role in structural effects,entrepreneurial effects,and demand effects,helping to promote the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure,stimulate entrepreneurial activity,release market potential,and thus empowering common prosperity.Heterogeneity analysis reveals that digital invention patents have a stronger promoting effect on common prosperity than digital utility model patents,indicating that higher quality digital technology innovation has a stronger promoting effect on common prosperity.Meanwhile,the positive impact of digital technology innovation on common prosperity is greater in the central and western regions,northern regions,regions with higher marketization levels,and regions with strong government innovation support.The findings not only clarify the relationship between digital technology innovation and common prosperity in theory,but also provide policy inspiration for fully tapping into the potential of digital technology innovation and effectively utilizing digital technology innovation to empower common prosperity.
