Dimensional Stability Analysis of CuAz Treated Wood Modified with Nano SiO2/Emulsified Wax
In order to achieve the better dimensional stability of preservative treated wood for outdoor application, the southern pine specimens impregnated with copper azole(CuAz)preservative were treated with nano SiO2/emulsified wax solution to improve its water repellent ability. The aim is to find out the best preparation conditions to improve the dimensional stability of CuAz treated wood. The results showed that the introduction of emulsified wax andnano SiO2 would reduce the water absorption and moisture expansion of CuAz treated wood, which would be decreased with the decrease of the specific surface area of nano SiO2.As the water immersion prolonged,CuAz treated wood modified with the smaller specific surface area of nano SiO2,may maintain the better dimensional stability over a long period of time.Compared with untreated wood,CuAz treated wood with different modification treatments would have varying degrees of increase in drying shrinkage, especially the addition of emulsified wax would increase the drying shrinkage of nano SiO2/CuAz treated wood to a certain extent. As the specific surface area of nano SiO2 increases, the drying shrinkage of CuAz treated wood showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing.
