Study on Synthesis of Acrylic Modified Polyester Resin for High Transparency and High Leveling Powder Coatings
Due to the high refractive coefficient and poor fluidity of polyester powder coatings, their transparency and leveling property were insufficient. Therefore, during the synthesis of polyester resin, acrylic prepolymers prepared by free radical solution polymerization were introduced, then polyester resin chemical structure and composition were characterized using infrared spectrometer and X-ray diffractometer. The effects of amount of acrylic prepolymer, acid value, viscosity, and glass transition temperature(Tg)on the appearance, transparency, mechanical properties, and storage stability of acrylic modified polyester resin and powder coating were studied. The results showed that acrylic modified polyester resin had been successfully prepared. In the synthesis,10%of an acrylic prepolymer with an acid value of 30 mgKOH/g,a viscosity of approximately 1 720 mPa·s,and Tg of about 45.6℃ was added. The resulting acrylic modified polyester resin coatings exhibited higher transparency and sloping flow compared to conventional polyester resin coatings, along with better water resistance and weathering resistance, while also maintaining mechanical properties and storage stability.
