On the Wanderer in Cyberspace:Gibson's Nostalgic Construction in Neuromancer
Taking contemporary nostalgia theory as a perspective, this paper explores Gibson's nostalgic construction and its intention in Neuromancer.Through the strategies of detachment, idealization and identification,Gibson constructs cyberspace as symbolic space and time and idealized social bonds, which ultimately dissolve Case's negative self-perception and then reconstruct his self-identity.Embedded in the nostalgic construction of Neuromancer is Gibson's own nostalgia. In the world wrapped in capital,Gibson relentlessly criticizes reality with the help of science fiction and constructs a seemingly virtual but real world.
