Can Digital Financial Inclusion Reduce the Urban-Rural Income Gap?——Taking Anhui Province as an Example
Based on the data of 16 prefecture-level cities in Anhui Province from 2011 to 2021 as research samples, this paper uses vector autoregressive model(PVAR)to explore the impact of digital financial inclusion on the urban-rural income gap in Anhui Province from three dimensions:coverage intensity, depth of use and digitization degree, and further analyzes the heterogeneity of northern Anhui, central Anhui and southern Anhui. The results show that:Digital financial inclusion can significantly alleviate the income gap between rural and urban areas;Among the three dimensions, the coverage intensity can significantly promote the narrowing of the urban-rural income gap,but the depth of use does not play a mitigating role. The digitalization degree has a mitigating effect, but the effect is not significant. In addition, digital financial inclusion is more significant in narrowing the urban-rural income gap in northern Anhui than in southern and central Anhui. It is suggested to implement the principle of"adapting to local conditions"and formulate regional digital financial inclusion plans,to leverage the digital economy for inclusive growth,to promote the development of private enterprises and help low-income groups to find employment, and to strengthen the popularization of financial knowledge,so as to improve the welfare level of all residents.
