Calculation of Energy Efficiency of Cities along the Yangtze River Economic Belt and Analysis of Its Influencing Factors
Since the Yangtze River Economic Belt was elevated to a national strategy, improving its energy status to achieve sustainable development has become an urgent practical problem to be solved. This study focuses on energy efficiency and its influencing factors, using the SBM-DEA model that includes unexpected outputs to measure energy efficiency of 104 cities along the Yangtze River Economic Belt.Based on this,a spatial econometric model is applied to empirically study the factors that affect energy efficiency. The results reveal that the energy efficiency of cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt is positively correlated with the level of economic development, industrial structure optimization and increased research and development(R&D)investment, while negatively correlated with the degree of government intervention and the abundance of natural resources.Among them, economic development and increased R&D investment are important factors in improving energy efficiency. Therefore, efforts should be made to improve the energy efficiency of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in terms of energy efficiency policies, investment in R&D,industrial structure, and optimization of the energy consumption structure.
