Objective To evaluate the effects of single insulin and combined metformin on blood glucose, blood lipids, insulin function and safety of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods From November 2018 to December 2022,80 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes who needed drug treatment received by Nanping Zhenghe County Hospital were selected as the research objects. They were divided into single group(single insulin)and com-bined group(insulin combined with metformin)by random number table method, with 40 cases in each group. The blood glucose, liver and kidney function, insulin function index and medication safety were compared between the two groups. Results There was no statistically significant difference in blood glucose indicators between the two groups(P>0.05).The glycated hemoglobin level in the combination group was lower than that in the single group, while the im-provement in triglycerides and serum total cholesterol were better than those in the single group, the malondialdehyde index was lower than that in the single group, and the superoxide dismutase was higher than that in the single group, the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in liver and kidney function between the two groups before and after treatment, both within and between groups(P>0.05).The in-sulin sensitivity index and insulin secretion index of the combined group were higher than those of the single group, while the insulin resistance index was lower than that of the single group, the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Conclusion Insulin combined with metformin can promote good blood glucose control in newly diag-nosed type 2 diabetes mellitus, which is of great significance for improving the metabolic status of patients.
