Objective To investigate the efficacy of metformin combined with saxagliptin in the treatment of early type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods 98 patients with early T2DM admitted to the Second Hospital of Nanping City from July 2021 to February 2023 were selected as the study objects, and were divided into control group and observa-tion group by random comparison table method, with 49 cases in each group. The control group was treated with met-formin,and the observation group was treated with metformin combined with saxagliptin.Through observation and follow-up,blood glucose control, glucose metabolism related indexes and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results Before treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in blood glucose and glucose metabolism indicators such as fasting blood glucose(FBG),2-hour postprandial blood glucose(2 hPG),glycated hemo-globin(HbA1c),fasting insulin, insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR)between the two groups(all P>0.05).After treat-ment,the average blood glucose levels in both groups were lower than before treatment, and the observation group was lower than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(all P<0.05).After treatment, the HbA1c and HOMA-IR glucose metabolism indicators in both groups were lower than before treatment, and the observation group was lower than the control group, the fasting insulin indicators were higher than before treatment, and the obser-vation group was higher than the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).During the treatment process, the incidence of adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and hypoglycemia in the observation group was 12.24%,compared with 16.33%in the control group, and the difference was not statistically sig-nificant(P>0.05).Conclusion The combination of metformin and salagliptin in the treatment of early T2DM can im-prove blood glucose levels and related glucose metabolism indicators, with no significant adverse reactions and signifi-cant clinical significance.
