Objective To evaluate the efficacy of metformin and acarbose in early diabetic patients. Methods The clinical data of 80 patients with diabetes in Jinan People's Government Office Qutpatient Department from January to October 2023 were retrospectively selected and divided into two groups according to the balanced sequential method. The control group(38 cases)received conventional treatment with metformin, and the observation group(42 cases)re-ceived acarbose combined with metformin. The clinical efficacy, glucose and lipid metabolism indexes and the total in-cidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of treatment of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the levels of glucose and lipid metabolism indexes in the observation group were better than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).There was no statistically sig-nificant difference in total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Combined use of acarbose on the basis of metformin in the treatment of diabetes has a significant effect, and can enhance the safety of medication on the basis of improving the treatment efficiency.
