Objective To analyze the effect of dapagliflozin combined with glargine insulin on carbohydrate metabo-lism control in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods 100 elderly T2DM patients admitted to Jilin Provincial People's Hospital from May 2021 to May 2023 were selected as the study objects. They were divided into observation group(n=50,treated with dapagliflozin combined with glargine insulin)and comparison group(n=50,treated with simple glargine insulin)using the envelope method. The clinical efficacy, carbohydrate metabolism con-trol,and total incidence of adverse reactions between two groups of patients were observed and compared. Results Af-ter 3 months of treatment, the carbohydrate metabolism level in two groups was significantly lower than before treat-ment,and the fasting blood glucose(6.01±0.28)mmol/L,2-hour postprandial blood glucose(7.41±1.18)mmol/L,and glycated hemoglobin(6.58±1.04)%in the observation group were lower than those in the comparison group, and the differences were statistically significant(t=2.171,2.595,2.077,all P<0.05).The total clinical effective rate of the ob-servation group(96.00%)was higher than that of the comparison group, and the difference was statistically significant(χ2=5.005,P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions be-tween the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion In the control of carbohydrate metabolism of elderly T2DM patients, the application of dapagliflozin and glargine insulin was effective, and while the level of carbohydrate metabolism was sig-nificantly improved, the clinical efficacy was more significant, and the risk of adverse reactions did not produce a sig-nificant elevation of the situation, indicating that the combined application of the above two drugs has a high degree of safety.
