Objective To explore the formation mechanism and independent risk factors of chronic periodontitis in Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)patients.Methods Clinical data of 82 patients with type 2 diabetes admitted to Jinji-ang Hospital from October 2021 to October 2023 were retrospectively selected.According to whether the patients were complicated with chronic periodontitis, the patients were divided into without periodontitis group(n=54)and periodon-titis group(n=28).Single factor analysis was used to analyze the factors that may influence T2DM to cause chronic periodontitis, and multi-factor analysis was used to analyze the independent risk factors that may cause T2DM to cause chronic periodontitis. Results The results of single factor analysis showed that plaque index(PLI),apparatus loss(AL)and fasting plasma glucose(FPG)and probing depth(PD)in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus combined with chronic periodontitis were significantly higher than those of patients without periodontitis, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The results of multi-factor analysis showed that high FPG,HbA1c,PD and AL were independent risk factors for chronic periodontitis in type 2 diabetes patients(all P<0.05).Conclusion Higher levels of FPG,HbA1c,PD and AL are independent risk factors for chronic periodontitis in type 2 diabetes patients.
