Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of insulin glargine and acarbose tablets in the treatment of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods A total of 88 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes admitted to Jiyang District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Jinan City from July 2021 to July 2023 were selected as the study objects and divided into study group and control group according to different treatment methods, with 44 cases in each group.Patients in the control group were treated with acarbose tablets, while patients in the study group were treated with insulin glargine combined with the control group.Blood glucose, islet function, serum inflammatory factors and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment,2-hour postpran-dial blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin A1c and fasting blood glucose in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The homeostatis model assessment-β of the study group was higher than that of the control group, but the homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance was lower than that of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(both P<0.05).After treat-ment,the levels of serum inflammatory factors in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The incidence of adverse reactions in the study group after treat-ment was lower than that in the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion The application of insulin glargine and acarbose tablets in the clinical treatment of elderly type 2 diabetes can en-hance its efficacy, improve the blood glucose of patients, enhance the insulin function of patients, and reduce the se-rum inflammatory factor index levels. After the combination of drugs, patients will not have serious adverse reactions, and have high application safety.
