Objective To analyze the effect of combined treatment with metformin and semaglutide on blood glucose level and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of eighty patients with type 2 diabe-tes mellitus treated in Xiamen Third Hospital from November 2021 to November 2023 were selected as the study ob-jects,and they were divided into control group and study group according to random number table method, with forty cases in each group. The control group only received metformin treatment, and the study group was combined with semaglutide treatment on the basis of metformin treatment. The blood glucose indexes, insulin resistance and insulin level, quality of life, and incidence of adverse reactions of the two groups were compared. Results After treatment, the levels of fasting plasma glucose,2-hour postprandial plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin A1c,fasting insulin,1-hour postprandial insulin and home ostatic model assessment insulin resistance in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).After treatment, the quality of life score of the study group was significantly higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the occurrence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion When metformin is selected for the treatment of type 2 diabetes patients, the combined applica-tion of semaglutide can achieve significant efficacy, effectively reduce blood glucose levels, better control insulin lev-els,significantly improve their quality of life, with less adverse drug reactions and high safety.
