Objective To analyze the therapeutic effect of combination therapy with metformin and liraglutide in pa-tients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 82 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus admitted to the Fourth Hospital of Changsha from January 2022 to December 2023 were selected as the study objects. They were di-vided into two groups by double-blind method with 41 cases in each group. The control group was treated with metfor-min,and the observation group were treated with metformin plus liraglutide.Blood glucose indexes, lipid metabolism indexes, islet function indexes and the occurence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results The levels of glycated hemoglobin A1c,2-hour postprandial plasma glucose and fasting plasma glucose in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The levels of lipid metabolism indexes such as low density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride and total choles-terol in observation group were lower than those in control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The levels of islet beta cells and fasting insulin in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the insulin resistance index was lower than that in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The combination therapy of metformin and liraglutide can significantly improve the level of blood glucose and lipid metabolism of patients, promote the islet function to be effectively improved, and will not in-crease the adverse drug reactions.
