Objective To investigate the effect of metformin in the treatment of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes melli-tus.Methods A total of 84 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus admitted to Shaxian Hospital of Tra-ditional Chinese Medicine from January to December 2023 were selected as the research objects. They were divided into control group(42 cases, taking acarbose)and study group(42 cases, taking metformin)by different treatment methods. The total effective rate, incidence of adverse drug reactions(nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea),blood glu-cose index(glycated hemoglobin A1c,fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose),islet function(fasting insulin, insulin resistance index, islet β cell function index)were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of treatment in the study group was higher than that in the control group, and the difference was statisti-cally significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of advers reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).The fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin A1c in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).After treatment, compared with the control group, the islet β cell function index of the study group was higher, and the fasting insulin and insulin resistance index were lower, the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Conclusion Metformin has a good effect in the treatment of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus.
