Objective To investigate the clinical effect of intensive treatment with short-term insulin pump in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 98 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus admitted to Shuyang Zhongxing Hospital from January 2022 to December 2023 were selected as the research objects.According to different treatment methods, the control group(49 cases)was treated with metformin combined with gliclazide, and the study group(49 cases)was treated with short-term intensive insulin pump on the basis of the control group. The islet function indexes(homeostatic model assessment of islet β cell function index, fasting insulin),blood glucose level(fast-ing plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin A1c,2-hour postprandial plasma glucose)and total effective rate of treat-ment were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the homeostatic model assessment of islet β cell function index of the study group was higher than that of the control group, and fasting insulin was lower than that of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(both P<0.05).After treatment, all blood glucose levels in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The total effective rate of treatment in the study group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion In elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, the ratio-nal use of short-term insulin pump to carry out intensive treatment can improve the function of islet β cells and re-duce blood glucose level.
