Objective To analyze the clinical efficacy of semaglutide combined with metformin in the treatment of dia-betes mellitus(DM).Methods A total of 84 patients with DM admitted to the Lanshan District People's Hospital from August 2022 to August 2023 were selected as the research objects.According to different treatment schemes, they were divided into control group and observation group, with 42 cases in each group. The control group was treated with metformin, while the observation group was treated with metformin combined with semaglutide. The clinical efficacy, blood glucose levels, body weight, islet function and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was 95.24%(40/42),which was higher than 80.95%(34/42)in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(x2=4.087,P=0.043).Before treatment, there was no significant difference in blood glucose levels between the two groups(all P>0.05).After treat-ment,the fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin A1c of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Before treat-ment,three were no significant different in body weight and islet function between the two groups(all P>0.05).After treatment, the body weight, insulin resistance index and islet β cell secretion index of the observation group were bet-ter than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Conclusion Semaglu-tide combined with metformin is effective in the treatment of DM,which can reduce the weight of patients, improve their blood glucose level and islet function, which has higher drug safety.
