Objective To investigate the effect of combined use of empagliflozin and metformin on blood glucose con-trol and insulin resistance index in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 110 patients with type 2 diabetes admitted to Guizhou Provincial Staff Hospital from January 2022 to August 2023 were selected as the re-search objects.According to different treatment methods, they were divided into control group and observation group, with 55 cases in each group. The control group was treated with metformin, and the observation group was treated with empagliflozin combined with metformin. The clinical effect, blood glucose levels, blood glucose variability indexes,is-let function indexes, blood lipid levels were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of treat-ment of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the levels of fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose and glycated hemoglo-bin A1c in the two groups decreased, and those in the observation group were lower than the control group, the differ-ences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).After treatment, the standard deviation of blood glucose, postprandial blood glucose fluctuation and maximum blood glucose fluctuation in the two groups decreased, and those in the obser-vation group were lower than the control group, the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).After treat-ment,the fasting insulin level,2-hour postprandial insulin level and insulin resistance index of the two groups de-creased,and the observation group was lower than the control group, the difference was statistically significant(all P<0.05).After treatment, the total cholesterol, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein cholesterol in the two group were decreased, and the high density lipoprotein cholesterol was increased, and those in the observation group was better than the control group, the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Conclusion The combination of em-pagliflozin and metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes has a significant therapeutic effect, which can reduce their blood glucose levels and improve their islet function and blood lipid levels.
