Safety of Glimepiride Tablets Combined with Metformin in Glycemic Con-trol Therapy for Elderly Patients with Diabetes Mellitus Complicated with Bronchial Asthma
Objective To explore the safety of metformin and glimepiride tablets in the treatment of elderly patients with diabetes mellitus complicated with bronchial asthma. Methods The clinical data of 110 elderly patients with dia-betes mellitus complicated with bronchial asthma admitted to the Quanzhou First Hospital Geriatric Branch from Janu-ary 2023 to April 2024 were retrospectively selected and divided into two groups according to different treatment meth-ods,with 55 cases in each group. The control group was treated with metformin alone, and the study group was treated with glimepiride tablets and metformin. The glucose control effect, clinical efficacy and adverse reactions were com-pared between the two groups. Results After 3 months of treatment, the levels of glycated hemoglobin A1c,fasting blood glucose and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The total effective rate of treatment in the study group was higher than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no signifi-cant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Metformin was added to glimepiride tablets on the basis of glucose control therapy in elderly diabetic patients with bronchial asthma. The glucose control effect was better, the clinical efficacy was significant and the risk of adverse reactions was not in-creased.
