Diabetes-related vascular disease is a common complication of diabetes mellitus and one of the main causes of death in diabetic patients. Its lesions mainly include macroangiopathy affecting the heart and brain,as well as microangiopathy affecting the kidney, retina and skin.Body fat distribution is associated with the occurrence of type 2 diabetes mellitus.Body mass index is a systemic metabolic index that cannot effectively measure abdominal vis-ceral fat and pericardial fat accumulation.Excessive accumulation of visceral fat is closely related to diabetic angiopa-thy.Therefore,this paper expounds the correlation between visceral fat accumulation and macrovascular and microvas-cular complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its potential mechanism, aiming to provide scientific basis and practical guidance for early prevention and management of vascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes.
