The development of high-sulfur oil and gas fields faces dual scientific challenges of safe treatment of highly toxic hydrogen sulfide and resource utilization of the formed sulfur.With the continuous development of the oil and gas production industry,more and more sulfur is produced as a byproduct in the process.Sulfur products are mainly used for producing sulfuric acid,fertilizers,and rubber additives,besides,the development of new sulfur-related products or materials is particularly important.Therefore,focusing on the treatment of hydrogen sulfide and the effective utilization of sulfur during the development of high-sulfur oil and gas fields,this paper puts forward an innovative idea of producing advanced building materials by modifying metal silicates with sulfur.In addition,sulfur-modified metal silicates are studied in laboratory,and the potential application fields of the related materials are proposed.The following results are obtained.First,modifying amorphous silica with zinc chloride and aluminum chloride is conducive to increasing the number of active centers on the surface of amorphous silica.Second,the calculation results of physical chemistry and quantum chemistry indicate chemical reaction of metal chlorides with oxygen and silicon of amorphous silica.Third,when metal(Zn and Al)chlorides are used as electrophilic activators in the production of sulfur-modified metal silicates,the materials produced have excellent performance indicators,meeting the requirements of the construction industry.In conclusion,the research results not only solve the difficulties in treating sulfur-containing wastes,but also open up a new way to produce advanced building materials with sulfur-modified metal silicates.The products have broad application prospects and important ecological significance and economic value.
