Research Advances in Soil Organic Carbon Transformation as Related to Drying and Wetting Cycles
The soil organic carbon played a vital role in carbon budget of the terrestrial ecosystem and was involved in carbon cycle and global change. This paper summarized research advances in mineralization and respiration of the soil organic carbon and humification of organic matters and discussed influences on soil organic carbon transformation from the soil aggregate structure, soil shrinking and swelling characteristics and the microbial activities as related to drying and wetting cycles.Researches both at home and abroad discovered that the drying and wetting cycles were important for soil organic carbon transformation and that soil aggregate, soil shrinking and swelling characteristics, microbial activities and microbial community were closely related to such transformation.Based on the foregoing discussions, this paper put forward research direction and development trend of soil organic carbon transformation as related to drying and wetting cycles,in the hope of providing new thinking and methods for regulation of soil carbon cycle and turnover.
