Interactions between GU Jiegang and Libraries:An Investigation Based on the Letters and Diaries
Focusing on GU Jiegang's letters and diaries before the age of 35,this paper attempts to trace the roots and development of his thoughts on library science and,on this basis,to examine his interactions with libraries.GU's thoughts on library science were rooted in the accumulation of ancient books and historical research, and were influenced by the reformation at that time.At different stages of his life,GU continuously shaped his understanding of libraries and contributed to the cause of librarianship through the process of using libraries, getting to know libraries, and transforming libraries as a student,a librarian and a scholar,so that he and libraries achieved good interactions and mutual success. This understanding and practice intermingled with the rest of his academic career, which together became his way of transforming the turbulent society. As a specific case of the interaction between scholars and libraries in the Republic of China(ROC)period, this study demonstrates the ongoing process of interaction and mutual influence between scholars and libraries under the ROC.
