Discipline Transients:An Empirical Study of Interdisciplinarity Indicator for Information Resource Management in CSSCI Database
This paper proposes the notion of"Discipline Transients(DT)",based on Diana Crane's concept of"transient",in order to analyze, from the perspective of research subjects, the phenomenon that scholars of a particular discipline withdraw from the research in another discipline after publishing some papers in the latter area.Through an empirical study,a"Discipline Transient"is defined as a social science researcher whose number of publications in CSSCI journals in another specific discipline is less than or equal to threshold'a'and whose cumulative number of publications in CSSCI and above journals is not less than threshold'b'.Using the DT,the paper assesses the interdisciplinarity between the discipline of Information Resource Management and other disciplines in the field of social sciences, confirming that the DT is a valuable indicator for assessing interdisciplinarity.
