Action Paths for Short Video Bloggers'Health Science Information Practices Based on Activity Theory
The booming development of short video platforms has created new opportunities and challenges for the popularization of science and technology. This paper attempts to explore the information practices of short video bloggers in the context of increasing people's knowledge of health sciences,to identify the pathways of their action, and to propose targeted strategies to address the challenges related to science popularization. To study the content creators with medical professional background who popularize health sciences in short video platforms,we obtained data on their psychological activities and behavior through semi-structured interviews, and crawled their relevant videos and user interaction data. Then,we introduced the activity theory to analyze the action paths of short video bloggers'information practices in health science popularization. This paper clarifies the core elements of information practices in health science popularization, and analyzes the entire popularization process of short video bloggers in the field of health science from top to bottom into three levels of behaviors which are continuously visualized as"activity-action-operation",corresponding to the motivation, goal and condition respectively.Drawing on the system-structure activity theory, the three adjacent elements within the system were combined to form four subsystems:content production system, narrative sharing system, action specification system, and external collaboration system.Focusing on the participatory role of multiple subjects,it systematically illustrates the action paths involved in the subsystems.Based on the stress in the popularization of science and technology perceived by the respondents,it proposes some practical response strategies from the perspectives of relevant government health departments,Internet platforms and institutions such as libraries, hospitals, and universities, which shed light on ways for multiple subjects to collaborate in the effective implementation of health science popularization.
