Adoption of Health Misinformation among Older People in the Context of Live Streaming:A Grounded Theory Analysis
This paper explores the formation mechanism of the adoption of health misinformation by older adults in China,in an attempt to enrich the theory of the elderly's health misinformation behavior, and provide a reference for health misinformation governance.Focusing on 16 urban seniors who have been exposed to online false health information, this study collects data through semi-structured interviews, analyzes the interview transcripts using grounded theory, and develops a corresponding theoretical model based on information manipulation theory,so as to explore the influencing factors and formation mechanism of the health misinformation adoption behavior of the elderly in urban communities. The study suggests that in the context of live streaming, platform information manipulation is the main influencing factor of false health information adoption by the elderly;information manipulation takes advantage of users'profit-seeking psychology and human bias, and uses immersive experience to reach the elderly, making them adopt false health information;the elderly respond to platform information manipulation through cultural self-confidence and self-efficacy,with a significant difference between the influence of self-efficacy at different levels on platform information manipulation.
