ChatGPT and Library Reform:Dual Effects,Cognitive Changes and Development Strategies
The arrival of ChatGPT has had a certain impact on the development of libraries.A study of the changes in librarians'and library users'perceptions of the use of ChatGPT in libraries can serve as a reference for the application of ChatGPT-type technologies in Chinese libraries.Using the grounded theory method, this article analyzes the changes in the librarians'and library users'perceptions of the adoption of ChatGPT in the library sector by examining the transcripts of an interview survey. The study shows that ChatGPT has a dual effect. On the one hand, the"technologies empower"library development, but on the other hand, there are"technical traps"such as threats and challenges.Technological impact, development opportunities, major challenges, technological choices, and summary planning together form a cognitive change model of librarians and library users regarding the use of ChatGPT in libraries. The changes are illustrated by the stakeholders'attitudes towards the use of technology, which evolved from technology-induced change to widespread use of technology,to a clear understanding of the role of technology, and finally to active mastery of technology. On this basis,a strategy for the future development of libraries is proposed from the perspectives of technological upgrading and library adaptation.
