Providing family engagement service in public libraries is an important measure to support children's growth and development.Investigating the practice of family engagement service in American public libraries is helpful for China to draw on experience and provide reference for the relevant practice of public libraries in China.This paper investigates the websites of 54 American public libraries,and selects 9 of them as core samples to analyze their family engagement projects,service contents,modes and characteristics.It is found that American public libraries have the characteristics of cultivating lifelong learning ability,multi-party cooperation,paying attention to physical and mental health,diversified family engagement methods and providing inclusive services.It is proposed that public libraries in China should continuously strengthen the training of professional librarians,enhancing family awareness,carrying out phased services,optimizing spatial layout and building service platforms when carrying out family engagement services.
