The construction of rural public reading space is an important part of promoting the high-quality development of public cultural services and the revitalization of rural culture. On the basis of referring to the relevant research on public reading space, this paper explores the utility evaluation and optimization strategy of China's rural public reading space based on the practical survey data of 562 villagers. The results show that the rural public reading space can be divided into three utility evaluation dimensions:institutional space, knowledge space, and social & leisure space.Villagers are most satisfied with institutional space, followed by knowledge space and social & leisure space. There are also differences among the subdimensions of each utility evaluation dimension. It is suggested to optimize institutional space by stimulating local vitality in rural areas, strengthen digital services to empower knowledge space, and accelerate resource integration to strengthen social & leisure space.
