As an important hub of urban and rural knowledge and information dissemination,it is an effective way to solve the accurate supply of urban and rural public reading services by studying the channels through which their internal service supply can effectively meet the reading needs of urban and rural residents.Using panel data from county public libraries in Anhui, this study employs Structural Equation Modeling(SEM)and Hierarchical Linear Modeling(HLM)to analyze the multiple mediation effects of library service provision and urban and rural residents'reading needs. The results show that public library provision significantly impacts urban and rural residents'reading needs through various mediating variables, such as the number of activities organized for readers and the cumulative number of library cards issued.Furthermore, due to the factors such as basic reading needs, the frequency of library activities, and economic levels, there are significant differences in urban and rural residents'reading needs across different counties.
