Effect of raw materials on the thermal expansion coefficient of needle coke
The thermal expansion coefficient,as one of the main bases for the quality classification of needle coke,is closely related to the feedstock. In this paper, the aromatic composition and activity index of the feedstock were obtained by NMR and QI determinations, and the equations were used to correlate the thermal expansion coefficient with the catalytic oil slurry, ethylene tar and their blends. In addition the relationship between the thermal expansion coefficient and the properties of the feedstock based on the aromaticity equation was investigated. The results show that the optimum density of needle coke feedstock is 1.02~1.08 g/cm3,and the high aromatic content and low thermal reactivity correspond to low thermal expansion coefficient.
