Abstract
The construction of shrines and temples in the Tang Dynasty was usually the results of the joint efforts of local people and officials.The construction of Yuchi Jiong's Temple at Xiangzhou in the late Kaiyuan Reign was originated from governor Zhang Jiayou's praying activities for local evil legends while the Yuchi's sneaky legend in Xiangzhou originated from a crisis of public mistrust in local mismanagement.As the political leader of a revived family,Zhang Jiayou regarded the construction of a temple and monument for Yuchi Jiong as an important political propaganda activity.While displaying his political attitude and resolving the crisis of local trust,he also used the tablet inscriptions to communicate the political achievements with the central government.Zhang's family,Yuchi's family and the local people in Xiangzhou made a joint appeal to promote the construction and t he development of the temple for different interests as well as further enriched the new faith stories and local knowledge according to their needs.
