Abstract
In the event of punishing those fraudulent officials who were subordinate to"An-Shi Rebellion"(安史之乱),the sixth class conviction law emerged timely under the comprehensive consideration of"benevolence and virtue"and"punishment and prestige".The punishment beheading under the singular willow was put in the first-class position.The choice of the place of punishment is also particularly meaningful,followed the cultural tradition of the ancient military community,gave full play to the killing power of Duliu sheshu as well as used willow to ward off evil spirits and expel ghosts,the three reasons were put together to form this result.Behind the new establishment and continuation of the punishment beheading under the singular willow as well as the location selection of a singular willow in the execution ground,there were exquisite political crafts and power operations of t he rulers.Through the phenomenon of beheading under a singular willow,it is possible to re-examine the important issues such as the psychological perceptions of rulers,the means of ruling,and the development of the chaotic and turbulent socio-political landscape as well as the complex and changing penal system during the middle and late Tang Dynasty.
