Abstract
The article explores the appellations of eunuchs in the Tang Dynasty by using the basic historical materials, such as The Old Tang History Book(《旧唐书》),The New Tang History Book(《新唐书》)and Zizhi Tongjian(《资治通鉴》),focusing on Neishi(内使)and Zhongshi(中使)and drawing tables to sort out the usages, duties and types of both in detail. The conclusion is that Hu Sanxing's views of points were likely to be wrong.Firstly, the point that"The eunuchs were all Neizhusishi(内诸司使),so they were called Neishi"was not consistent with the actual situation.Secondly,it is doubtful that"The Neishi is the Zhongshi",but considering that both were found in the same record,it is likely that they are different appellations.Thirdly, since the historical materials are basically not the records of Zhu Quanzhong's period,it can not be determined whether the statement that"Liang officials often avoided Zhu Quanzhong's name and the change of Zhong(中)to Nei(内)"was correct.
